You do not require a referral to attend Mindhealth.
You are however required to obtain a referral/mental health care plan from your GP or psychiatrist should you be wanting to claim a medicare rebate.
We provide psychological treatment under the Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. As such, you may be able to access medicare rebates, for both in person or Telehealth sessions, if you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP.
We offer services under Mental Health Care Plans for up to 10 rebatable sessions per calendar year; and Chronic Disease Management Plans for up to 5 rebatable sessions per calendar year.
Please note you do not require a GP referral to attend, it is completely optional and simply to aid in costs. We are happy to discuss this further with you in your initial session.
Medicare rebates for services are as follows:
* Clinical Psychologists medicare rebate of $145.25
* Family/Couples Counselling is not eligible for medicare rebates
If you hold private health insurance, you may qualify for rebates on psychology services. The rebates offered are contingent upon your individual coverage, and we encourage you to contact your health provider.
You will be responsible for paying any remaining out-of-pocket expenses.
Please note that you cannot utilise your private health insurance if you are already receiving Medicare rebates for your session.
To accommodate our clients' busy schedules, we provide sessions beyond regular office hours. Sessions are offered before work at 7:30 am/7:45am, and after 5:00pm. As well, Melissa is available on Saturdays.
Please note that these extended hours sessions are subject to an additional "out of hours" surcharge of $25, in addition to our standard session rates.
Please email info@mindhealthpsychology.com.au if you require any after hours appointments.
To maintain the quality and availability of our services, late changes, cancellations, or missed appointments will incur a fee. Simply let us know in advance to avoid any extra charges.
Greater than 48-hours notice ahead of appointment time: No fee
24 – 48-hours notice ahead of appointment time: 50% of the session fee
Less than 24-hours notice or no notice ahead of appointment time: Full session fee
We do offer Telehealth sessions as an alternative should you be too unwell to attend in person.
Still Not Sure About Therapy?
Your out-of-pocket fee will be $104.75 due to Clinical Psychologists receiving a higher rebate than general psychologists.
We understand that everyone's therapy needs are unique, and we strive to accommodate your individual preferences and goals. Here's what you can expect regarding session length and frequency:
Therapy sessions typically last around 50 minutes. This duration allows for meaningful exploration and discussion of your concerns while also ensuring that sessions remain focused and productive.
The frequency of your therapy sessions will depend on several factors, including the nature of your concerns, your availability, and your therapist's recommendations. In general, clients often attend therapy sessions on a weekly basis to maintain momentum and consistency in their therapeutic journey.
Your psychologist will work with you to determine the most suitable session length and frequency based on your needs and preferences. Whether you prefer shorter or longer sessions, or need to adjust the frequency of sessions due to scheduling constraints, we will strive to find a schedule that works best for you.
Throughout the course of therapy, your psychologist will regularly assess your progress and adjust the frequency of sessions as needed. As you make progress towards your therapeutic goals, you may choose to decrease the frequency of sessions or transition to a maintenance phase of therapy.
We understand that life can be unpredictable, and there may be times when you need to reschedule or adjust your session times. MindHealth Psychology offers flexibility in scheduling online to accommodate your changing needs and commitments.
At MindHealth Psychology, your comfort and well-being are our top priorities. We understand that exploring difficult emotions and experiences in therapy can sometimes evoke feelings of discomfort or overwhelm. Here's how we support you in those moments:
Our therapy space is designed to be a safe and nonjudgmental environment where you can freely express yourself. Your psychologist is here to listen to your concerns, validate your feelings, and offer support every step of the way.
If you start to feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed during a session, we encourage you to communicate openly with your psychologist. You can let them know how you're feeling, and together, you can explore strategies to manage those feelings and ensure your comfort.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and your psychologist will work with you to ensure that the pace of sessions feels comfortable and manageable for you. If needed, sessions can be adjusted or modified to better meet your needs and preferences.
If you need a break during a session to collect yourself or take a moment to process, you are always welcome to do so. Your psychologist will respect your boundaries and support you in whatever way you need.
After a session where you've felt uncomfortable or overwhelmed, your psychologist may check in with you to see how you're doing and offer additional support or resources if needed.
Please know that feeling uncomfortable or overwhelmed at times during therapy is completely normal, and it's an important part of the therapeutic process as you explore and work through challenging emotions and experiences.
Melissa is here to guide and support you every step of the way.
At MindHealth, we understand that one of the most important aspects of therapy is seeing tangible progress and improvement in your well-being. Here are some indicators that therapy may be working for you:
* Decreased Symptoms: You may notice a reduction in the intensity or frequency of symptoms related to your presenting concerns, such as anxiety, depression, or stress.
* Improved Coping Skills: Therapy can equip you with effective coping strategies to manage difficult emotions, situations, or relationships more effectively.
* Increased Self-Awareness: As therapy progresses, you may gain deeper insight into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, leading to greater self-awareness and understanding.
* Enhanced Relationships: Therapy can improve communication skills and interpersonal dynamics, resulting in healthier and more fulfilling relationships with others.
* Achievement of Goals: If you established specific goals at the beginning of therapy, reaching milestones or making progress toward those goals can be a clear sign that therapy is working for you.
* Better Quality of Life: Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to enhance your overall well-being and quality of life. If you find yourself feeling happier, more content, and more fulfilled in various areas of your life, it's a positive indication that therapy is making a difference.
It's important to remember that therapy is a collaborative process, and progress may not always be linear. We will work closely with you to monitor your progress, adjust treatment strategies as needed, and celebrate your achievements along the way.
If you have any concerns or questions about your progress in therapy, we encourage you to communicate openly. Together, we can explore any challenges or barriers and continue working towards your therapeutic goals.
